China has expressed strong condemnation over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, cautioning that the act could exacerbate regional instability.
Lin Jian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, voiced Beijing's opposition to Haniyeh's killing, emphasizing China’s advocacy for conflict resolution through dialogue. Haniyeh’s assassination follows his participation in unity talks sponsored by China among 14 Palestinian factions.
Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday, having been in exile and on Israel's target list since Hamas's surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year. China is urging a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza to prevent further conflict.
