Farmers led by Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have escalated their protests across Punjab and Haryana, targeting the BJP in multiple locations to push for their demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops.
Protesters burnt effigies of the BJP at the Shambhu border and other key locations such as Amritsar, Moga, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sonipat, and Panchkula. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher condemned the Haryana government's decision to recommend gallantry medals for six police officers who had previously prevented farmers from heading to Delhi.
Farmers have been staging sit-ins at Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13, with recent protests reigniting after clashes at Khanauri resulted in the death of young farmer Shubhkaran Singh and injuries to several police personnel on February 21. Farmers vow to continue their agitation until their demands are addressed.
