On Friday, BJP MLAs staged a walkout from the West Bengal Assembly, protesting the soaring prices of essential commodities.
The legislators demonstrated at the assembly gates, brandishing placards condemning the price rise. BJP legislator Narahari Mahato criticized the state's inaction despite promises from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Agriculture Minister Sovandeb Chatterjee asserted that potato prices were capped at Rs 28 per kg in state-run outlets, but his claims were disputed by opposition leaders. Chatterjee blamed the central government for not addressing price hikes in petroleum products and making the Essential Commodities Act ineffective.
