Controversy Erupts Over Tragic Drowning Incident in Delhi

The LG office has accused AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh, of making false statements regarding a woman and child drowning in a DDA-controlled drain. AAP has demanded the LG's resignation, claiming negligence. The LG office refutes these allegations, clarifying jurisdictional responsibilities and accusing AAP of blame game tactics.

On Friday, the LG office accused AAP leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, of making 'patently false, deliberately misleading, and blatantly improper' statements about a woman and her child who drowned in a DDA drain.

The AAP leaders alleged that the fatalities in East Delhi were due to a fall into a DDA-controlled drain and demanded the resignation of the LG, the chairman of the Authority. A protest at the LG office has been announced for Saturday by AAP.

In response, the LG office clarified that the tragic incident took place in a drain under MCD's control, managed by AAP, and had not been desilted or covered. The 1,000-metre stretch of the drain falls under MCD, handed over by DDA on April 17, 2023. Only a 350-metre section is under DDA control, which has been desilted and covered.

The LG office criticized AAP leaders for promoting false narratives and misleading the public. AAP rebutted, insisting the drain maintained by DDA ends near the accident site. AAP demands accountability and compensation for the victim's families.

The LG office condemned AAP's tactics, accusing the party of using blame games to distract from their '10 years of deliberate inaction, lack of development, and worsening civic infrastructure' in Delhi.
