The Trinamool Congress (TMC) demanded the resignation and apology of West Bengal Jails Minister Akhil Giri after videos surfaced showing him threatening and verbally abusing a woman officer of the state forest department.
Speaking from Kanthi in Purba Medinipur district, Giri confirmed he would resign but refused to apologize. The videos depict Giri, the MLA of Ramnagar, warning forest ranger Manisha Sahu about reducing her tenure after she led an encroachment removal on forest land near Tajpur beach.
TMC spokesperson Shantanu Sen stated that party president Subrata Bakshi instructed Giri to apologize and resign. Despite his reluctance to apologize, Giri said he would submit his resignation. TMC spokesperson Jaiprakash Majumdar acknowledged that Giri's behavior stained the party's image. Meanwhile, the BJP criticized Giri's conduct, demanding his arrest and charging for his actions.
