Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of defaming his party for vote bank politics ahead of the Assembly by-polls. He alleged that the BJP's view on Muslims was undemocratic, and the public has lost hope in the party, predicting a certain 'safaya' (wipeout).
Addressing reporters on the birth anniversary of socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, popularly known as 'Chhote Lohia,' Yadav discussed the Ayodhya rape case. He claimed the BJP aims to tarnish the image of the 'samajwadis' (socialists) especially before the by-elections. Awadhesh Prasad, SP's Faizabad MP, demanded hanging the culprit and providing Rs 50 lakh in compensation to the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, SP spokesperson Tej Narain Pandey expressed fears of BJP retaliation against SP leaders if they meet the victim's family. Yadav also criticized the revised law requiring a DNA test for serious crimes and accused the BJP of putting undue pressure on officials. He slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and claimed the police were politically motivated in their actions.
