Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Fights Allegations of False Residency in Bid for NY Ballot
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared in a New York court to contest allegations that he falsely claimed residency in New York to secure a spot on the state ballot. The lawsuit, filed by Clear Choice PAC, alleges Kennedy resides in Los Angeles. Kennedy's campaign argues he has maintained a significant connection to New York.
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. arrived at a New York court on Monday to challenge a lawsuit alleging he falsely claimed to reside in New York. The suit claims he sought this false residency to appear on the state’s ballot.
Kennedy was present during Monday morning’s legal arguments at the state capital of Albany, where a judge will decide the case without a jury under state election law. The lawsuit, brought by Clear Choice PAC, asserts that Kennedy's nominating petition wrongly listed his residence as New York's northern suburbs while he has lived in Los Angeles with his wife, actor Cheryl Hines, since 2014.
The lawsuit aims to invalidate his petition. Despite the controversy, Kennedy has gained significant traction and poses a potential challenge to major party candidates. His campaign asserts that he has gathered enough signatures to qualify in 42 states, although disputes like these have emerged in various states, including North Carolina and New Jersey.
