Debate Ignites Over Waqf Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill presented by the Centre in the Lok Sabha stirred controversy. Indian Sufi Foundation President Kashish Warsi supports it, while AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi opposes it, citing constitutional concerns. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju claims the mafia controls Waqf Boards.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, presented by the Centre in the Lok Sabha, sparked intense debate on Tuesday. Kashish Warsi, President of the Indian Sufi Foundation, stated that radicals are currently in control of Waqf properties. He urged for a comprehensive debate before passing the bill, asserting its alignment with the Sufi beliefs.

Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP, criticized the Bill, labeling it as an attack on Waqf and Muslim rights. He raised concerns that it violates constitutional principles, including Articles 14, 15, and 25. Owaisi argued that the Bill undermines judicial independence and the separation of powers.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju countered the Opposition's stance, claiming they are misleading Muslims. Rijiju stated that Muslim delegations had approached him, alleging that the mafia has taken over Waqf Boards and emphasized the need for amendments to address these issues.
