West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday contacted Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, urging him to investigate the alleged assaults on Bengali laborers in Odisha, according to a senior official.
The Chief Minister expressed her concerns over reports that laborers from West Bengal were being beaten and tortured by locals in Odisha, who suspected them of being Bangladeshis.
Banerjee requested Majhi to address the situation promptly and advised the laborers to return to West Bengal for better opportunities.
