Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh's ousted prime minister, demanded justice on Tuesday for the recent violent acts that led to several deaths and extensive vandalism. She called for investigations and punishment for those responsible.
In her first public statement since her resignation on August 5, Hasina, 76, highlighted lives lost during agitations since July. She resigned and fled to India following deadly student-led protests against a controversial job quota system.
Expressing grief for the victims, including students, teachers, and policemen, Hasina urged Bangladeshis to peacefully observe August 15, the national mourning day, despite the interim government cancelling it. Hasina mourned the burning of the Bangabandhu Museum, once her father's residence, during the unrest. She appealed for justice and respect for those who lost their lives.
