In a heated press conference in Lucknow, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi took aim at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress amid nationwide unrest following the death of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Trivedi accused Banerjee of dragging her feet on involving the CBI in the investigation.
'It would have taken Mamata Banerjee only 70 seconds to hand over the case to the CBI. And she was asking for 7 days to do that. This shows her frustration,' Trivedi stated, comparing the case to previous violent incidents in West Bengal such as Sandeshkhali and Shahjahan Sheikh controversies.
Extending his criticism, Trivedi accused Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav of obstructing investigations in rape cases in Ayodhya and Kannauj, labeling it a pattern of behavior by the INDIA alliance. He also called out Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for their silence, alleging their complicity in these incidents.
Trivedi lambasted the violent protests against a CBI inquiry ordered by the High Court, suggesting the demonstrations were attempts to obscure evidence. Highlighting widespread discontent, he noted continued protests by medical and non-medical professionals for improved safety measures for doctors and women.
The post-graduate trainee doctor's death in Kolkata has ignited a political firestorm, with the BJP accusing the ruling TMC of a cover-up. The CBI is currently investigating the case.
