Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday underscored the need for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to determine its chief ministerial candidate ahead of elections, diverging from the notion that the party winning the most seats should take the lead. Thackeray's statement came during an address to party workers, where he vouched support for any candidate chosen by Congress and NCP (SP).
MVA allies Sharad Pawar, NCP (SP) leader, and Congress representatives also voiced their priority to unseat the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition. Emphasizing the importance of democracy and Maharashtra's self-respect, they are planning to embrace a unified stance for the upcoming 228-member assembly elections, anticipated in October or November.
Pawar highlighted the necessity for a single agenda to change Maharashtra's government. In his address, he advocated for concurrence among MVA's parties and other aligned groups, including the Left and Peasants and Workers Party. Meanwhile, Thackeray questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance on a secular civil code and challenged the government's inconsistency over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
