Luis Abinader Starts Second Term as Dominican Republic President

Luis Abinader, the president of the Dominican Republic, is set for his second four-year term following his inauguration on Friday. Global leaders, including the king of Spain, attended the ceremony.

Abinader, who won 58% of the vote in May on a pro-business and anti-corruption platform, has named key members of his executive team. Economist Joel Santos will be the new mines and energy minister, overseeing one of the world's largest gold mines, Puerto Viejo. Jose Ignacio Paliza will serve as minister of the presidency, coordinating between the president and other sectors.

In continuity, Abinader signed a decree to retain crucial financial administration members. Hector Valdez continues as the central bank governor, with Clarissa de la Rocha as vice governor and Alejandro Fernandez as the superintendent of the country's banking watchdog.
