Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed on Wednesday that approximately 50 Bangladeshi infiltrators have been pushed back by the state police amid the ongoing political unrest in the neighboring country.
Sarma noted that the immigrants were using Assam as a transit point to reach southern cities for employment in the textile industry. He plans to write to his Tamil Nadu counterpart to verify the credentials of recent workforce entrants in this sector.
To address the issue, security measures are being ramped up in Karimganj district, a key infiltration route. Sarma also highlighted that other states like Tripura and the BSF are conducting similar operations and reiterated the state's commitment to safeguarding its borders.
