National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah has called for the protection of every religion in India, underscoring the nation's unity in diversity. His comments came a day after the Assam Assembly voted to eliminate a two-hour 'namaz' break for Muslim legislators on Fridays.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the break for Muslim legislators to offer 'namaz' will be discontinued from the next session. Abdullah stressed that changes are inevitable over time and predicted a return to more inclusive policies in the future. He implored every citizen to respect and protect people of all faiths.
Abdullah also addressed remarks by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti about NC vice president Omar Abdullah's comments on the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), urging political leaders to focus on safeguarding the nation rather than casting blame. Additionally, Abdullah paid respects at the Sufi shrine of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoomi and prayed for national harmony.
