Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday made a strong case for a nationwide caste census and the inclusion of Bihar's 65% quota increase in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. He asserted that major socialist leaders have historically emphasized the importance of addressing caste issues.
Yadav criticized the BJP for opposing the caste census, accusing the party of wanting to keep the poor in perpetual poverty. 'The BJP wants the son of a garbage collector and the next generation to clean drains his entire life...This is the mentality of the BJP,' Yadav said at a protest rally. He emphasized that discrimination persists in society and that understanding the condition of different castes is vital in the fight against poverty.
In his address to the media, Yadav also called on the JD(U) to clarify its stance on whether it supports including the increased reservation by the Mahagathbandhan government in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Meanwhile, RJD held a state-wide sit-in protest demanding a nationwide caste census, with Yadav actively participating from the party office on Beerchand Patel Path.
