Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Friday prioritized unseating the Eknath Shinde government in the forthcoming assembly elections over settling on a chief ministerial face for the opposition alliance.

In an interview with PTI, Patole noted significant public unrest against the current state leadership, with a growing desire for Congress to return to power. He emphasized that protecting Maharashtra's ideology and defeating Shinde's government were the primary objectives, not the pursuit of the CM position.

Patole announced that seat-sharing negotiations among the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes Congress, NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), will commence after Ganesh Chaturthi. He dismissed speculations about internal differences, insisting that merit would guide seat allocations. Patole also downplayed media reports about Shiv Sena (UBT) seat claims in Mumbai, stressing cooperation within the MVA to regain lost ground in the upcoming polls.
