The driver of a luxury car, owned by Sanket Bawankule, son of Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, was arrested after a crash involving multiple vehicles in Nagpur, police officials reported on Tuesday. The incident has prompted calls for an unbiased investigation from opposition parties.
The Audi, carrying five occupants including Sanket, collided with several vehicles early Monday, injuring two individuals. The driver, Arjun Hawre, was arrested Monday night and later released on bail, according to police.
Following the crash, a case of rash driving was registered, escalating into a significant political issue ahead of assembly polls. Opposition leaders allege attempts to shield the political family, while the ruling BJP insists on lawful handling of the case.
