France's New Cabinet Focuses on Action over Stunts
France's new Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, has called on his ministers to prioritize action and humility. The newly formed cabinet, following a snap election, faces the challenge of passing reforms and the 2025 budget in a divided parliament. However, the minority government still struggles to gain stability.
France's new Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, called on his ministers to focus on actions rather than stunts during their first cabinet meeting on Monday. Barnier urged the ministers to abandon theatrics and respect all compatriots and political parties.
The new cabinet, formed after a snap election resulting in a split parliament, faces the challenge of pushing through reforms and the 2025 budget. President Macron, criticized for a top-down leadership style, also urged ministers to be more humble and attentive to voters.
The far-right National Rally, holding a kingmaker position, has given conditional support to Barnier but reserved the right to withdraw. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau promises stringent law enforcement and tough stances on immigration and antisemitism, amidst a government with low public recognition and limited political clout.
