In a fiercely contested election, Nazir Ahmad Khan, representing the National Conference, emerged victorious in the Gurez assembly seat for the fourth consecutive term. The veteran politician defeated his BJP opponent, Faqeer Mohammad Khan, by a margin of 1,132 votes, securing a significant win for his party.

Nazir Ahmad Khan secured a total of 8,378 votes, surpassing Faqeer Mohammad Khan's 7,246 votes. This marks yet another triumph for Khan, who has consistently won the seat in 2002, 2008, and 2014, while his adversary had previously won it as an Independent in 1996.

Gurez, the smallest constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed an intense campaign, with high-profile visits including a rally by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, aimed at securing a historic victory for the BJP in the region. However, Khan's experience and stronghold proved decisive.
