Niranjan Pradhan, a former legislator from Odisha, has passed away at the age of 67, according to family sources. The veteran politician was hospitalized for a month due to a brain stroke before succumbing to his ailments, which included diabetes, on Thursday night.
Pradhan's political career began in 2004 when he was first elected from the Kodala assembly constituency in Ganjam. Five years later, he secured a win from the Polasara segment, also in Ganjam, representing the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
After being denied a BJD ticket for the 2019 elections, Pradhan switched allegiances to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His demise was mourned by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, reflecting his influence in Odisha's political sphere.
