Diplomatic Standoff: India and Canada Clash Over Sikh Leader's Murder
India's envoy to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has been expelled amid allegations connecting New Delhi to the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Verma denies involvement, claiming Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's reliance on intelligence, rather than evidence, has disrupted diplomatic ties without impacting trade or cultural relations.
Tensions have escalated between India and Canada, as India's envoy, Sanjay Kumar Verma, faces expulsion over allegations of New Delhi's involvement in the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In a recent interview, Verma staunchly denied any involvement in the murder.
The diplomatic rift was further intensified as both nations expelled six diplomats, marking a tit-for-tat response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's assertions linking India's intelligence, not concrete evidence, to the murder in British Columbia.
Despite the political discord, Verma emphasized that economic and cultural ties, which include substantial trade and a significant number of Indian students in Canada, remain largely unaffected.
