The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is gearing up to announce its new National President by the end of December 2024, according to sources within the party and the RSS. This change is part of a structured electoral process timed with the organization's election preparation, as confirmed by top party insiders.
The BJP's election procedures are underway, starting with selecting leaders from the booth level to the national stage. With current leader Jagat Prakash Nadda serving until late 2024, the party follows its constitution’s electoral guidelines. This includes comprehensive planning for a new leadership team.
Local committee elections are the first phase, followed by successive polls at mandal, district, regional, and state levels. Each level is responsible for nominating office-bearers. Once elections in half the states are complete, the focus shifts to choosing a full-time national president, estimated to span over two months.
According to party rules, a BJP National President can serve two consecutive terms of three years each. This provision was adjusted in 2012, allowing leaders like Nitin Gadkari potential consecutive terms. However, historical shifts, such as the replacement of Gadkari by Rajnath Singh prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha victory, highlight the dynamic nature of BJP leadership transitions.
