Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the BJP on Wednesday for allegedly using the name of Veer Savarkar for political gain, while calling for the posthumous honor of Bharat Ratna for the freedom fighter.
These comments emerged following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tribute in Marseille, France, to Savarkar's historic escape attempt during his return to India under British custody.
Chaturvedi emphasized that respecting freedom fighters should transcend politics. She highlighted contrasting historical approaches, such as Indira Gandhi's documentary on Savarkar, arguing for unified appreciation of their shared struggle for Indian independence.
