Pakistan's army chief, General Asim Munir, clarified on Thursday that he has not received any correspondence from the incarcerated former prime minister, Imran Khan. Munir, while speaking to media informally, emphasized that even if he received Khan's letters, he would forward them to the prime minister without reading them.
This development comes as Khan, who has been detained since August 2023 on multiple charges including corruption and terrorism, has written three open letters accusing the current administration of election rigging. Khan’s legal representative, Faisal Chaudhry, highlighted that these letters address concerns about electoral fraud and the alleged preference for minority governance.
Khan, the 72-year-old former cricket star turned politician, had earlier written two letters to the army chief claiming an increased rift between the military and the public and urging a reconsideration of military policies. The letters coincide with the PTI's halted negotiations with the government demanding judicial inquiries into significant past events and the release of political detainees.
