The recent imposition of President's Rule in Manipur has thrown the state into political turmoil, as the BJP central leadership faces the challenge of navigating this crisis. The decision followed the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who stepped down after nearly two years of violent ethnic conflict that claimed over 250 lives.

President's Rule was declared after the BJP could not agree on a new chief ministerial candidate, despite discussions between northeast in-charge Sambit Patra and party legislators. The Manipur assembly, with its term extending until 2027, has been placed under suspended animation, but not dissolved, according to state BJP president A Sharda.

Reactions have been mixed. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP's inability to govern, while the CPI(M) called for fresh elections. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum sees this as a hopeful step towards resolution for the Kuki-Zo community.
