AAP leader Atishi raised concerns on Friday over the newly instated BJP Delhi government's failure to implement a promised scheme offering a Rs 2,500 honorarium for women in its first cabinet meeting.
Having previously held the chief minister position in Delhi, Atishi accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of reneging on their pre-election assurances of financial support for women under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana.
During a press conference, she highlighted Modi and BJP President JP Nadda's commitments prior to the Delhi elections to approve the scheme, ensuring the funds would be deposited in women's bank accounts by March 8. However, she noted that after the BJP's Thursday evening cabinet meeting, no steps were taken to enact the scheme.
Rekha Gupta, the newly appointed Delhi chief minister, was also criticized for allegedly neglecting this priority. Posters of Modi and Gupta were displayed as Atishi questioned the delay and suggested it might merely be an unfulfilled electoral promise. Debating the new government's other decisions, Atishi expressed skepticism about their promised actions regarding tabling CAG reports against past AAP governance.
