Mamata Banerjee Sets Ambitious Target for 2026 Bengal Elections

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has laid out an ambitious goal for her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. She announced that the TMC aims to secure more than 215 out of the 294 seats in the assembly, with a focus on reducing the BJP's presence.

The BJP had won 77 seats in the 2021 assembly elections. Banerjee, while addressing her party, criticized past slogans of the BJP and underscored the TMC's goal of achieving a two-thirds majority, stating that all efforts should ensure BJP candidates lose their deposits.

TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee supported Mamata Banerjee's strategy, calling on party workers to ensure her re-election and TMC's dominance in the 2026 polls. The TMC is working to strengthen its voter base against the BJP's challenge before the elections.
