Tamil Nadu and Union Government Clash Over NEP Implementation

In a heated parliamentary session on Monday, opposition members vehemently condemned Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's controversial remarks amid ongoing tensions over the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Tamil Nadu. Protesters from the DMK, including MP Kanimozhi, opposed Pradhan's claim that the Tamil Nadu government was 'dishonest' in executing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. The Union Education Minister later retracted his statement. The dispute roots in the state's resistance to the NEP 2020's three-language policy and its conditional central funding.

Congress MP Mallu Ravi further criticized Pradhan for branding Tamilians as 'uncivilized,' reflecting an alleged bias in the BJP's stance towards southern India. With societal and political consensus in Tamil Nadu rejecting the three-language policy, political leaders vowed to continue opposing its imposition, intensifying the Centre-state conflict.
