Turkey has expressed cautious optimism following the announcement of an agreement between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and Syria's new government. A Turkish official revealed Ankara's position to Reuters on Tuesday.
Despite this optimism, Turkey remains steadfast in its counter-terrorism efforts. The official stated that Ankara's expectations have not changed, especially regarding the YPG militia, which leads the SDF and is viewed by Turkey as a terrorist group.
Turkey continues to insist on the disbandment and disarmament of the YPG, emphasizing that its main focus remains countering terrorism in the region amidst the unfolding developments.
