In a heated session of the Lok Sabha, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused the Speaker of stifling his ability to address the House on critical issues. According to Gandhi, a longstanding convention allowing the Leader of Opposition to speak has been breached.
Expressing frustration to reporters, Gandhi highlighted his intention to discuss the Maha Kumbh Mela and unemployment issues, emphasizing his bewilderment at being denied a platform. He criticized the Speaker's approach, suggesting an erosion of democratic principles where opposition voices are sidelined.
Reacting to these allegations, Speaker Om Birla stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in parliamentary proceedings, citing instances of members' inappropriate conduct. The session was abruptly adjourned, prompting further confusion among MPs like Congress's Karti Chidambaram, who likened the experience to a school assembly.
