A budget meeting of the Rewa Municipal Corporation in Madhya Pradesh erupted in chaos on Wednesday as corporators from BJP and Congress clashed over the omission of honorific titles from great personalities' names in an official proposal.
Tensions rose when it was revealed that the proposed budget included the installation of statues of figures such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, yet their names were presented without the respectful title 'Shri'. Vyanktesh Pandey, the BJP chairman of the municipal council, claimed this as disrespectful and demanded an apology.
Rewa's Congress mayor, Ajay Mishra, attributed the issue to a clerical error, but the explanation was not well-received, leading to a heated exchange almost escalating into a physical confrontation. The meeting concluded with its adjournment until the following day, with videos of the altercation circulating widely on social media platforms.
