In a bold move that has strained US-India relations, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued an Executive Order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports. This decision, sparked by India's purchase of Russian oil, raises the total tariff on Indian goods to 50%.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey openly questioned the alliance between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting doubts over Trump's reliability as a partner. Dubey suggested that India's independent stance, typified by its oil purchasing decisions, might be the catalyst for the tariffs.
The Ministry of External Affairs in India declared the tariff hike as 'unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable,' emphasizing their resolve to protect national interests. They argue that India's energy imports are driven by market factors and are crucial for the security of its 1.4 billion citizens.
