Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, unveiled a commemorative coin and a centenary memorial stamp to honor the renowned Indian geneticist, Professor MS Swaminathan, on his birth centenary. The launch took place during the inaugural ceremony of the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference.
This year’s conference, under the theme ‘Evergreen Revolution, The Pathway to Biohappiness’, reflects Prof. Swaminathan’s enduring commitment to global food security. It serves as a platform for experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders to engage in discussions on advancing the 'Evergreen Revolution'. Key topics include sustainable biodiversity, agricultural practices for food and nutrition security, climate resilience, technology for sustainable livelihoods, and inclusive community engagement.
In further tribute to Swaminathan’s work, the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and the World Academy of Sciences introduced the MS Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace. Prime Minister Modi will present this first international award to an individual from a developing country who has excelled in enhancing food security and promoting climate justice and equity through various means, including scientific research and local engagement.
