Tamil actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the Madras High Court's decision to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for probing the Karur stampede incident, which claimed 41 lives.
A bench featuring Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran has acknowledged the submissions presented by a lawyer representing TVK's secretary, Aadhav Arjuna, and set the hearing for Friday.
The bench will also address another plea by BJP leader Uma Anandan, who contests the high court's decision against a CBI probe. TVK argues that a Supreme Court-supervised investigation is essential for ensuring an unbiased and impartial probe.
