Indian Student's Desperate Escape from Russian Military

Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, a 22-year-old Indian student from Gujarat, surrendered to Ukrainian forces after joining the Russian military to avoid prison in Russia. The student, who was caught in a drug-related case, sought help from Ukrainian troops, expressing his desire to escape and not return to Russia.

An Indian national, Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, from Morbi, Gujarat, has surrendered to Ukrainian forces after being involved with the Russian military. The 22-year-old, who went to Russia for studies, joined the military to avoid a prison sentence related to drug charges, as confirmed by the Gujarat police.

Inspector General of Rajkot Range Ashok Kumar Yadav revealed that Hussein was sentenced to seven years in a Russian prison before being allowed to join the military as an alternative. The Ministry of External Affairs recently called for the release and repatriation of 27 Indian nationals in similar situations.

In a video by the Ukrainian 63rd Mechanised Brigade, Hussein recounted his experience, including a confrontation with his commander and his subsequent surrender. Reports indicate that some Indians in Russia might be coerced into military service against their will.
