K Ponnusamy, a seasoned legislator from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, died at 74 due to cardiac arrest, a party statement confirmed on Thursday.
A representative of the Senthamangalam constituency, Ponnusamy was renowned for serving his community with loyalty and respect, having held the MLA position twice, in 2006 and 2021. His passing marks a significant loss for both his constituency and the DMK.
As the Senthamangalam seat becomes vacant, a by-election will soon be announced. Expressing his condolences, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin praised Ponnusamy's contributions to the development of the party and the welfare of tribal communities in Namakkal East.
