Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis signaled his intent to remain in office through 2029, indirectly addressing both his deputy, Eknath Shinde, and the BJP's central leadership. Amid speculation, Fadnavis stated on Wednesday that “Delhi is still far away,” emphasizing his commitment to Maharashtra's top post.
The current Mahayuti alliance, comprising Fadnavis's BJP, Shinde's Shiv Sena, and NCP led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, remains intact with no anticipated partner changes. Following his tenure as Deputy CM with Shinde as CM after the 2022 political splits, Fadnavis reassured stability in the leadership composition.
Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant suggested Fadnavis's statements reflect concerns over being replaced, noting frequent visits to Delhi by political figures may heighten such fears. On electoral maneuvers, Sawant mentioned Congress’s strategic autonomy in pending Mumbai municipal elections, eying the mayor’s seat as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi opposition bloc.
