Deadly Airstrike on Refugee Camp Heightens Lebanon-Israel Tensions

An Israeli airstrike targeted a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, marking the deadliest attack on Lebanese soil since a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war last year. State media reported the airstrike killed 13 individuals and injured several more, hitting a car outside a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp near Sidon.
Hamas fighters in the vicinity restricted media access as emergency responders attended to the casualties. The Israeli military justified the strike, stating it targeted a Hamas training site poised to launch attacks against Israel. Israel vowed continuous action against Hamas in the region.
This incident follows a series of Israeli airstrikes over the past years, targeting leaders from Hezbollah and Palestinian factions like Hamas. Recent intensifications in conflict have seen both sides sustain significant casualties, culminating in a US-mediated ceasefire, although hostilities and airstrikes persist as Israel accuses Hezbollah of rebuilding its military capabilities.
