In a controversial move, Congress leader Udit Raj has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the cancellation of a planned rally by the Confederation of Dalit, OBC, Minorities, and Adivasi Organisations (DOMA Parisangh) at Ramlila Maidan.
The rally, which was initially slated for Sunday, aimed to advocate for constitutional protections and voter rights. Raj, DOMA's chairman, claimed that pressure from the BJP led to its abrupt cancellation. Despite this setback, he emphasized their commitment to protect the Constitution by coordinating a smaller pledge event at a statue of B R Ambedkar.
Details emerged of a complaint by Shashank Shekhar Tripathi, a BJP legal cell coordinator, arguing that the rally's intentions could incite societal division and disorder. Although no local elections are impending, the Model Code of Conduct was reportedly cited in the decision to revoke rally permissions, prompting further criticism from the Congress leader.
