Tragic Clash: Congress Worker Murdered Amid Group Tensions

A Congress worker, Ganesh Gowda, was killed during a clash between two groups in Kadur, sparked by a dispute over a banner. Authorities are investigating the motives and have arranged four teams to track down the accused as political leaders call for justice.

A Congress worker was allegedly killed during an intense clash between two rival groups in a district of Kadur, police reported Saturday.

The victim, identified as Ganesh Gowda, 38, was a gram panchayat member. The lethal confrontation took place Friday night in Sakharayapatna, according to police sources.

Authorities say the altercation erupted over a banner issue near a math around 9:30 pm, leaving multiple participants from each group with serious head injuries, and currently receiving treatment at Chikkamagaluru District Hospital.

Amid the chaos, Gowda sustained deadly injuries from a sharp object, a senior officer disclosed.

The same factions had skirmished earlier that night, near a bar in Sakharayapatna. The incident escalated near the math shortly afterward.

Superintendent of Police Vikram Amathe confirmed the murder and stated that law enforcement, combined with the Scene of Crime Officer team, inspected the area.

"We are examining the motives behind this incident. Four teams are established to locate the culprits. Two participants needing medical care are under guard, with actions forthcoming based on the official complaint and investigation results," he informed the press.

A formal report was filed at the Sakharayapatna police station.

While the precise chain of events and motives await clarification upon arrests, ongoing inquiries continue.

In Bengaluru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared adherence to judicial procedures, intending to confer with the Superintendent. Home Minister G Parameshwara added that the investigation will clarify those accountable for the incident.

Efforts continue in detaining the perpetrators, asserted the police.

Minister K J George remarked the episode is regrettable, condemning the murder over disparate views. He affirmed police accountability toward punishment and initiated steps to avert recurrent occurrences.
