In West Bengal's Murshidabad district, over Rs 1.30 crore has been amassed for the construction of a Babri Masjid-style mosque, announced by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir. The funds include Rs 37.33 lakh in cash from donation boxes and Rs 93 lakh from online contributions, with further collections underway.
The mosque foundation was laid on December 6, coinciding with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary, escalating political tensions as West Bengal gears up for elections. Around 40,000 people attended the event, where Kabir solicited public donations for the mosque, following his suspension by the Trinamool Congress.
Kabir, known for political theatrics, plans to launch a new party and contest in 135 assembly seats while maintaining that the mosque will be built irrespective of opposition. The project has become a pivotal issue in the politically charged atmosphere of pre-election West Bengal.
