Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado will not be attending the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo this Wednesday, according to broadcaster NRK.

Machado, aged 58, has been subject to a travel ban lasting for over a decade, imposed by Venezuelan authorities. She has been in hiding for more than a year, and her precise whereabouts remain unknown.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee had extended an invitation to her for the event, which was to be attended by King Harald, Queen Sonja, and Latin American leaders, including Argentinian President Javier Milei and Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa.
