Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi responded to Trump's comments, urging the president to focus on delivering on promises made to American voters. Fiqi rejected the characterizations made by Trump, highlighting Somali efforts against adversity and contributions to global society.

The remarks come after Trump pledged to freeze migration from poorer nations following a shooting in Washington. Criticism of Trump's rhetoric, including calls for the deportation of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a Somali native, continues to mount.
