Thailand has announced a curfew in Trat province following escalating tensions with Cambodia over a disputed border region. The announcement came despite recent ceasefire talks reportedly facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The conflict, which has seen several skirmishes this year, reignited with the death of a Cambodian soldier in May. Both countries have accused each other of aggression, with Thailand stating that Cambodia needs to halt hostilities before negotiations can proceed. In response, Cambodia has accused Thailand of targeting civilian infrastructure.
Recent hostilities have forced mass displacements, and Thailand has reinforced its military stance by destroying a bridge used by Cambodia to transport heavy weaponry. Diplomatic efforts are being strained, with Trump urging both nations to honor ceasefire commitments.
