The Trump administration is ramping up its efforts to strip U.S. citizenship from certain naturalized Americans, according to a New York Times report on Wednesday. Based on internal guidance from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), field offices have been instructed to present 100-200 denaturalization cases per month in the upcoming fiscal year 2026.

This initiative represents a stark increase from past averages of denaturalization cases, which saw about 11 annually between 1990 and 2017. Potential grounds for denaturalization include fraudulent citizenship acquisition and factual misrepresentation during the naturalization process.
