AAP leader Raghav Chadha voiced his concerns in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, calling for crucial amendments to the Copyright Act of 1957. Chadha highlighted the significant role of digital content creators in today's economy and stressed that their livelihoods should rely on legal frameworks, not arbitrary algorithms.
Chadha pointed out that millions in India have become digital creators, contributing as educators, musicians, and various other roles. He raised the issue of fair use and arbitrary copyright strikes, arguing that creators risk losing their work due to minor or repurposed content usage.
He proposed three key demands: a clearer definition of digital fair use, introduction of a proportionality doctrine in copyright enforcement, and a mandatory due process before any content is taken down.
