The Nepali Congress, Nepal's oldest and largest political entity, is navigating turbulent waters as it gears up for general elections on March 5. The newly-formed Central Working Committee (CWC), led by the recently elected Gagan Thapa, is pushing for comprehensive reforms after a significant party split.
This fracture occurred when Deuba, the party president, refused calls to resign from Thapa and Sharma, who emphasized the need for change to address concerns from the nation's youth and better position the party for the elections.
In the wake of this turmoil, the CWC has inaugurated an election manifesto committee under Thapa, aimed at engaging younger constituents with a progressive vision for nation-building. Concurrently, a mobilisation committee will ensure grassroots party support across constituencies, indicating a strategic focus on organisational revitalization.
