In a shocking pre-election incident, Bhushan Shingne, a BJP candidate in the Nagpur civic polls, suffered serious injuries following an attack by a group of people late Wednesday night. The attack took place in Gorewada, just hours before polls opened.
The assault is alleged to be linked to local political rivalry, as one of those named in the FIR is the husband of Shingne's opponent from the Congress party. The attack saw Shingne and two accompanying BJP workers confronted by a group of around 10 individuals.
Nagpur's BJP president, Dayashankar Tiwari, has implicated city resident Ganesh Chacherkar and demanded decisive action from law enforcement. Meanwhile, the local police have launched an intensive investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing potential witnesses, with the intent to bring the culprits to justice.
