BJP Triumphs in Pune as Ajit Pawar's NCP Faces Major Defeat
In a significant upset, Ajit Pawar's NCP, despite its alliance attempts, suffered a severe defeat in Pune's municipal elections at the hands of the BJP. This loss is expected to reduce Pawar's influence in the state alliance, as his campaign struggles contrasted with BJP's significant lead and decisive victories.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the municipal corporation elections, defeating Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Despite forming an alliance with his uncle's faction, NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar could not protect his party's traditional strongholds.
Ajit Pawar had focused on attacking BJP's local leadership for failed development and corruption, but the party still experienced a severe setback. In Pune, BJP led in over 110 seats, vastly overshadowing the NCP's 12. Similarly, in Pimpri-Chinchwad, BJP surged ahead with 84 leads against NCP's 37.
Despite his committed campaign efforts and the absence of Sharad Pawar, the city conceded to BJP's momentum. Criticism arose over Ajit Pawar's promises, such as free Metro and bus rides, viewed as desperate measures. Additionally, controversy surrounded a land deal involving Ajit Pawar's son, adding to the challenges faced by the NCP.
